An Active Guide to a Chicago Weekend
Chicago is one of my favorite places to be in sweet summertime!
The weather is sunny, the air is fresh, & the water is an electric blue.
I highly recommend spending 4th of July on a yacht with some friends for a great time enjoying Lake Michigan.
Read on to see where I got the best açaí smoothie bowl (or, how to make your own & its benefits), and where to go for a long run!
There's nothing like a cool smoothie bowl to detox your body after celebrating a holiday. Head over to Left Coast if you're in need of a refreshing detox.
I opted for the Left Coast Açaí Bowl & a La Colombe Draft Latte (my faaavvvorite!).
And if you are wondering how in the heck you say "açaí," it's pronounced "ah-sah-eee." Tomato/tomatoe... it's delicious & nutricious.
If you aren't around to try yourself, here's how you can make your own:
Combine açaí frozen berry pulp, 1/2 banana, macca powder, almond butter & 2 tablespoons of milk (I like almond, but you can use whatever!)
Blend until smooth! Try to make it as thick as a yogurt, but you can add more milk, if necessary.
Top with the other 1/2 banana, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, hemp seeds, granola, & cocunut.
Açaí berries are considered a superfood because they are LOADED with antioxidants that help with brain, heart, and overall health. They come to use straight from the Amazon, and contain 3x the antioxidants of the already amazing blueberry.
Another way to explore Chicago is to get out on the Lakefront Trail along Lake Shore Drive.
The Lakefront Trail has over 18 miles of pavement that will take you along the beach, all the way down to Navy Pier.
During this trip, I ran about 8 miles of this path and enjoyed plenty of open running space along the lush landscape (hello hydrangeas!).
I always track my miles with the Nike+ Run Club app. You can track you pace, splits, calories, & more! You can also connect your Spotify or iTunes through the app. I like to create my own Spotify pace stations based on the genre and my running pace.
Or, you can view their recommended playlists. These are my favorite playlists for 3-5 mile long runs at about 8 minute miles:
Nike+ Run Club
Nike Long Run
Nike Speed Run
Currently, my favorite running song is Sneakers by Akira Akira. What's yours?
Thank you for reading along about my trip to Chicago! If you enjoyed this post, I would love for you to subscribe and keep posted about my upcoming trip to Atlanta. I'll give you the same lowdown for healthy eats and the best running spots.
I hope you had a lovely 4th of July with your loved ones!
